What it is

The start of the lunisolar year celebrated in Chinese, Vietnamese (Tết), Korean (Seollal) and other East and Southeast Asian cultures. 2026 is the Year of the Horse; 2027 the Year of the Goat.

How it's observed

Family reunion dinners, red envelopes, lion dances, fifteen days of festivities ending with the Lantern Festival.

Is Lunar New Year a stat holiday?

No. Lunar New Year is not a statutory holiday anywhere in Canada, though you can ask your employer for the day off.
